Where I Stay: Hudson Hotel, New York

29 December 2008

Brandon Gien, Executive director, Australian International Design Awards on the Hudson Hotel, New York.

Hudson Hotel, New York
"If you go to New York, a stay at the Hudson is a must. The place exudes good design from every corner and makes you feel special from the second you arrive. The lobby is surrounded by a stunning creeping ivy that covers the entire ceiling - checking in is an experience alone. The rooms are quintessential Philippe Starck design, from the timber walls right down to the basin. Then there's the bar, super-chic from floor (complete with under-lights) to ceiling. Don't forget to look up. The place is just too cool for words."

  • Although the rooms really are tiny, if you appreciate that this place was once a YHA that has been transformed perfectly into a large boutique hotel, and book a deluxe room if you can, you won't be disappointed. I worked comfortably from both my room and the sky terrace - perfect in summer! There are lively sounds from the lobby in the evenings but it's a restful place when it counts. Worth a stay if you like being close to Central Park, Columbus Circle and Midtown. Recommend!
