With one our Travel Insider correspondents hitting the streets of Tokyo in a few weeks (live Tweets to come), we’ve been starting to ask our Twitter followers about their experiences in the Japanese capital. First up: where to stay. Here are some of your recommendations:

@
ag_reeves The Claska - so awesome in Meguro

@kirstyt Stayed at the Kimi Ryokan in 2003. Shared showers & loos, but lovely Japanese accom in a hostel-like environment.

@flyingwithfish I like the Shinjuku Washington Hotel in Tokyo, http://bit.ly/3XEHcP ... Anywhere in Shinjuku is great, Shinjuku on a Thursday night makes Times Square on New Years Eve look tame.

@
phi_rocks Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is cheap, in a great location and is sooooo good!

@TheAuditGuy ANA Intercon. in Akasaka, Tokyo

@MichelleYamine Park Hotel Tokyo @ shiodome media tower. Great price for business type hotel. Do great b/fast (japanese & western!!)

@jasonsbradshaw the hyatt is well priced especially at agent rates and decent size rooms

  • Amazing user tested and recommended tips. The best kind.
  • Stayed at the Andon Ryokan in Minowa a few times. Tiny, tiny rooms, but quite good prices for Tokyo (about 8000 Yen). It's a few stops out of Ueno, so if you don't need to stay right in town, it's still very easy to get around the city. Minowa is a sweet small suburb, so nice to see that side of Tokyo. And the staff at the Andon are great. (http://www.andon.co.jp/index.html)
