You’ll come a-waltzing all the way to the USA thanks to the announcement of the new Qantas Dreamliner route.
From next year, passengers will be able to fly Melbourne to San Francisco direct on a new Qantas Dreamliner route.
The 14-hour journey is now the only non-stop Melbourne to San Francisco flight and will be available to book early 2018, with its maiden voyage expected to take off later that year.
Qantas’ second Dreamliner – charmingly christened ‘Waltzing Matilda’ by popular vote – will smooth transit times for business travellers who regularly visit Silicon Valley in California.
“A significant number of our Melbourne passengers flying to Los Angeles already connect on to San Francisco,” said Qantas International CEO Alison Webster. “We also see strong demand from San Francisco, both from a tourism perspective and because of the business links between Melbourne and Silicon Valley.”
The Qantas Dreamliner has 236 seats across three cabins including a Business class that has been dubbed “mini First Class” by some Frequent Flyers, enhanced Premium Economy and Economy with significantly improved seating, entertainment, storage and device charging outlets.
Waltzing Matilda will alternate destinations to match demand, flying to Los Angeles some days, San Francisco others.
Time to pack your swag – and your laptop.
