This sandstone and cedar mansion (1843) was the centrepiece of a 12000ha Hunter River estate owned by barrister, politician and would-be pastoral king Richard Windeyer. Today the house has 5ha of grounds, including remnant pleasure gardens. Points of interest include a domed hall, French doors opening on to a wide flagstone verandah and a private family chapel (designed by Windeyer’s wife and sister-in-law). Open Sundays 11am-3pm; light refreshments available. Can also be hired out for functions.
