Queenstown is renowned as the best skiing destination in the Southern Hemisphere. There are four ski fields within a 90-minute drive of the town and world-class snowmaking facilities mean adventure is guaranteed. Coronet Peak, with 280 hectares of skiable terrain ideal for all abilities and the entire family, is only a 20-minute drive from the centre of town. It offers the longest opening hours in New Zealand, night-time adventures on weekends and plenty of après-ski action.
If you want to avoid tourist crowds and turn the adrenaline factor up a notch, head to The Remarkables, which is known for its steep slopes (but has gentler runs, too). Cardrona, a 45-minute drive away, is best for freestylers. Treble Cone, a 90-minute drive via Wanaka, is home to the largest ski area in the South Island.
