Santiago is a beautiful metropolitan city with a rich history. Everywhere you go there is more to find, from 16th century churches to mirrored skyscrapers and sweeping vineyards to bustling outdoor malls.

Beauty vlogger Chloe Morello spent time in Santiago last year, filming a video for Qantas. Here are five of her top tips for experiencing the Chilean capital…

Visit Cerro San Cristóbal

Cerro San Cristóbal is one of the largest hills in Santiago and provides an epic 360-degree view over Santiago. Yes, it’s a little touristy but you must go as the sun is going down so you can admire the pastel sunset.

Enjoy a cocktail on the rooftop of the W Hotel

For a night out, don’t miss the rooftop of the W Hotel, which has sweeping views of the city and a great cocktail menu. Drinks can be enjoyed poolside or inside, next to the huge glass windows that look out over Santiago.

Splurge in Santiago’s Barrio Italia

Shopping in Barrio Italia (the Italian quarter) is a must. It’s a colourful place full of character and isn’t too touristy. Here you’ll find lots of independently owned stores selling everything from vintage wares to funky clothing.

Eat at The Casa Luz

The Casa Luz restaurant has a great atmosphere and delicious food. Go through the huge wooden doors to the bar, which has a glasshouse in the centre and serves amazing pisco sours. Ready for dinner? The outdoor dining area features a lush green garden with fairy lights and plenty of seating. The menu is a mix of contemporary and traditional Chilean cuisine. I loved the beef; it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Visit Valparaíso

Valparaíso is a short drive away from the city but definitely a must-see in Chile. The port town, which is famous for its multi-coloured clifftop homes, is like no other city I’ve seen. Spend at least a day here – there so many quaint eateries, stores and art.
