Hotel Fort Canning at night

Singapore’s a buzzing hub at its regular pace, but as the Formula 1 speed demons descend on the city for the September Grand Prix, visitors will be running on empty trying to keep up with the action. This week, we have compiled a pit stop list of the newest hotels and bars to hit the city’s streets… and sky.

When it comes to getting in gear for the Formula 1 Grand Prix it pays go glam, and flying high doesn’t get any higher than at the newly opened Ku Dé Ta atop the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark. The sister bar to its hugely successful Bali counterpart, Ku Dé Ta is the home away from home for Singapore’s swanky society. Rolling seven venues into one, and coming complete with its own infinity pool, this is an ultra-slick monument to grown-up fun.

Get an insider look at these hotels and bars at our Singapore's Slick New Hotels and Bars Gallery.

On a rooftop across town, perched above The Fullerton Bay Hotel, sits the Lantern Bar. Previously a historic landing point for Singapore immigrants, Lantern now spends its nights competing with Ku Dé Ta for the title of “Singapore’s Most Beautiful View”.

The city is hardly struggling when it comes to hotel options, but those hunting for a mix of Singapore’s old-world charm with new-world amenities should indulge in the lavish colonial stateliness of Hotel Fort Canning. This grand former base for the British Far East Command has been given a 21st-century makeover complete with a cutting-edge, in-room entertainment system and THANN Sanctuary natural therapy spa.

Also inspired by Singapore’s multicultural roots is The Saff Hotel. Opened late last year, The Saff’s theatrical architecture is right at home in the middle of a former red light district turned hip hangout, Keong Saik Road, and maintains the nostalgia of the city’s yesteryear with each room featuring elements from the world’s ancient spice routes of Spain, Persia, Morocco, India and Thailand.

Those who prefer their accommodation streamlined with a capital “S” will enjoy Moon, Singapore’s latest boutique offering. Acting as a cosy sanctuary away from the energetic streets of the Little India district, the interiors of the 83-room Moon are straightforward, but with a heavy dose of chic. Further south, the Art Deco architecture and interiors of the recently opened Wangz Hotel compliment its state-of-the-art trimmings and, as with most new hotels, the complimentary internet access comes standard, so you can keep one eye on the racing highlights while you unwind.

  • I've done both Ku De Ta in Bali and Singapore. That view off the Marina bay sands is beyond incredible.
  • The best view in singapore imho is from New Asia - on the 71 floor of the Swissotel Stamford. Stunning!
