Athlete Q&A
You’re famous for your goal scoring. What goes through your mind before you take a goal shot?
I focus first on the trap so it makes it easier to hit it in the back of the net. If I don’t get it in then I want to make sure it leaves a mark on the goalie for next time.
How does the team mentally prepare before a big game?
We usually have a team meeting four hours before the game at the hotel. Most of the boys listen to some music and see the physio for strapping or a last minute rub down. We head to the hockey field about an hour before to get a feel for the surroundings - and then game time.
What other sports are you interested in watching during the Olympics?
I love watching the NBA (The Dream Team), 100m sprint, track cycling and swimming.
Any places in London you enjoy visiting?
I’ve been to London a couple times. Big Ben, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards were good to see.
You’ve travelled the globe for hockey, where has been your favourite place to play, and why?
The World Cup 2010 playing against India in India was a great experience with the local crowd going wild every time India got the ball.
You’re originally from Darwin, what do you miss about living in the Northern Territory?
The weather. Wearing shorts and shirts all year round.
What’s on your iPod when you travel?
Anything R&B or Rap.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Go hard or go home. And, you only live once.
