Located on “top of the world” near Brisbane – imagine a gracious ski lodge on a mountain knoll, with slopes of dazzling green instead of white. From this eyrie, the bird’s-eye view of Cunningham’s Gap and rugged ranges is spectacular and serene. The steep climb to the top has become a pilgrimage for food and wine lovers – it’s unquestionably haute cuisine. In the dynamic kitchen, chefs create new menus daily in five- or seven-course degustations. Venison, quail, barramundi, crab, kangaroo carpaccio, beef tenderloin: everything comes around in time in a new way. Wines of high standard, some reasonably rare, complement each ample course, with glasses topped up by the generous host. This is not a limiting experience and the mood, like the view, is expansive. With numbers restricted to only 30 places, demand for tables is high.
Open: breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Licensed. Degustation $155-$175, inclusive (five/seven-course).
