Pak Khlong Talad market, Bangkok
Spices, herbs, flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables are all available here. During the day, women sit by vast piles of chilli and garlic sorting and bagging; at night others crouch in corners threading buds into garlands. Orchids and jasmine are piled high, the vibrant dust of spices and chilli coats every cranny of the ugly concrete structure and the air is heavy with the aroma of blossom and fresh fruit.
Open: 24 hours.
