The shape shifters: Leanne Amodeo

26 June 2009

Acclaimed architects and design commentators reflect on the cities, eras, inventions and trends that have inspired them.

The city that provides endless inspiration for an architect…
If I were an architect, I’d be in constant awe of Tokyo, a city that seems to breed creativity and inventiveness.

The precinct with the most notable examples of fine architecture…
Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Exciting Australian architecture firms McBride Charles Ryan, Sean Godsell and Paul Morgan, have all designed homes there.

Most useful design trend of the past decade…
Collaboration, whether it be fashion designers working with chain stores to produce affordable collections or product designers such as Alexander Lotersztain working with communities in Africa. It signals an inclusive approach to design and the realisation that a project is often richer for having creative input from a number of sources.

Most innovative designer…
I’m a huge fan of Trent Jansen. His Kissing Pendants light perfectly embodies his wit and personality.

Wish you’d designed…
The Plopp stool by Oskar Zieta, because it shows how good design can be clever, good-looking and functional
