La Vache à Carreaux wakes up after dark. It’s mainly a wine bar, with a gem of a wine list – Santa Duc Gigondas, Yann Chave Hermitage, cult wines such as Granges des Pères from Languedoc and less familiar drops such as Domaine St Nicolas Fiefs Vendéens pinot noir from the Loire. There’s food, too – goat’s cheese salad, charcuterie, cheese plates and the like – all designed to complement the wines.
