A former Argentine PR supremo and her English DJ husband are the brains behind Home, a smart boutique hotel with a vintage bent. Quirky wallpaper, 60s furniture, a tranquil garden and pool, plus a bar with an astounding array of vodkas add allure.

With vintage French wallpaper and classic Scandinavian furniture, the vibe is super-cool yet cosy, and the downstairs spa is an intimate space with a chilled world-music soundtrack. The spa day treatment package for ARS750 ($227) is one of the city’s best deals. Exfoliating treatments use an all-natural lavender scrub. A delicious breakfast (including inventive juice combinations such as orange and lavender) is followed by a Californian massage involving a combination of stretches, massage and pressure-point manipulation. A plentiful lunch is served before heading back downstairs for a luxurious facial using seaweed products. A lounge by the pool or a cocktail at the bar adds the finishing touch. The boutique hotel’s low-key restaurant offers a richly varied menu, and the day spa includes use of the outdoor pool and other treatments such as the dry sauna.
