For years the quintessential hot dog vendor and an exemplar of bargain eating in NYC. The recession special, which was first offered almost two decades ago, comprises two hot dogs and a choice of beverage (a soda or papaya juice, which are said to ease weary souls in difficult times). The deal was recently upped to $US4.45, but Gray’s remains one of the cheapest and quickest meals in all of New York. Also located at 539 Eighth Avenue, 2090 Broadway and 116 Waverley Street.
