This vibrant monthly market (generally taking place on the first weekend of every month) is relatively new to the Barcelona scene but has already made such a big name that if you go any time after 1pm you will likely have to queue to get in. The program and vendors vary, but expect to find live music and performance, crafty workshops, local organic produce, art installations and a wide range of local fashion designers. The entrance fee is 2€ ($3) and children under 12 are free. When you’re done shopping and eating you’re only a couple of blocks away from the beach.

Just east of the city centre, Sant Marti occupies a large stretch of beach and is home to Barcelona’s Olympic Port. If you’re walking along the beach from Barceloneta you’ll know you’ve entered Sant Marti when you’ve passed Frank Gehry’s epic glistening statue, Peix (Fish). If you’re really keen the Palo Alto Market is just over a 30-minute walk from this point, mostly along the beach, otherwise the closest metro stop is Selva de Mar.
