China House is a traditional and popular venue specialising in seafood, but it’s also well-known for yum cha. It’s quick, casual and communal, and loved by families and groups of friends. Children especially might enjoy the cheesy prawns and scallop on the shell. Trolleys and trays fly down the long aisles offering favourites such as roast sliced duck, stuffed mushrooms, and flash-fried tofu with pork topping. The wine list is a little better than standard for this style, with an extraordinary and intriguing collection of Grange vintages and a few other iconic reds.
Open: lunch & dinner daily. Licensed. Yum cha $4-$5.50/dish (day), $5-$6.50 (night)
