A-list all the way, most people who stay at Chateau Marmont probably wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Toni Collette is a regular, as are countless famous rock bands that hole up here while recording their albums. A collection of rooms, suites and bungalows built in 1929, the chateau has an art deco elegance different from the newer luxury boutique hotels. Its modest bathrooms are original – something that won’t please everyone. But this legendary hotel doesn’t have to; under the close watch of Midas hotelier André Balazs since 1990, no other establishment has come near to knocking the Chateau off its throne as the destination for the seriously cool, glamorous and rebellious.
Bar & dining Guests at the hotel have access to the dead-cool upstairs dining and bar areas (including the romantic courtyard garden). The menu is by “chef to the chefs” Carolynn Spence, formerly of New York’s Spotted Pig. Downstairs is Bar Marmont, also a happening place to eat and drink. Make sure to look up at the butterfly ceiling.
