Cable Beach, 1 Broome Road, Broome, Western Australia, Australia.
With its mixture of remoteness and romance, Cable Beach Resort is regularly nominated by managers as a favourite destination. The resort’s program emphasises its position on the edge of the Indian Ocean and its relationship to nearby wilderness areas. Suggested activities include visits to the Willie Creek pearl farm, as well as dinners at the town’s pearling museum or aboard a local pearl lugger. Sports fishing is another option, or perhaps treatments at the day spa. Clients have included Dymocks and Insurance Brokers Network Australia. “We tend to suit companies with teams that are in the 30-plus age group, and they come from the world of finance, automotive and medical companies. Younger teams from telcos would probably be happier somewhere such as Queenstown in New Zealand, which specialises in thrill-seeking adventures such as the Awesome Foursome [white-water rafting, bungee jumping, helicopter and jet-boat rides],” says resort spokesperson Nicole Tingey. “Most people who come on a corporate retreat are being rewarded. It’s less about clients bringing in motivational speakers, more about relaxing.”
Why go there: brand-new day spa, perfect for partner programs; exclusive daytime use of the newly refurbished beachfront Sunset Bar and cafe for lunchtime meetings (subject to availability); scenic flights to Cape Leveque’s isolated beaches.
