Delhi, host of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, offers some of the best boutique accommodation in India, including chic small hotels, Raj-redolent guesthouses and homestays replete with local ambience.

The power capital of India, Delhi is busy, booming and confident. The economic success of the new India has seen a steady increase in corporate and diplomatic delegations to the city as India has achieved record tourist numbers. While maintaining its traditional role as the gateway to Rajasthan, Delhi is
emerging as a destination in its own right. The ancient city has a wealth of heritage experiences as well as contemporary art and rich cultural offerings of dance, theatre, film and music. The dining and shopping is spectacular, and in 2010 the city will host major sporting events including the Commonwealth Games. This momentum has engendered five-star-hotel fever in Delhi, with a record number of luxury hotels being constructed and with them perhaps the most expensive room rates in India. However, for those in the know, some of India’s top boutique accommodation can be found in Delhi. Here are some of the best.

  • The ImperiaL Hotel in New Dehli is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. Marble, beautiful kashmiri carpets, lovely old wooden furniture and the art works!! It's like an art gallery.
  • Folks, I have just spent a week in New Delhi on business after an absence of some 27 years. Everything and nothing has changed. India is just as fascinating now as it was then. BTW found a boutique hotel called the estate in Sultanpur, do yourself a favour, check it out.
