Blanc Bistro and Grill, Adelaide

The three Thanakamonnun brothers, Sam, Eric and Norman at the stoves, built a strong reputation at earlier venues and have really hit their stride here. The surroundings are cool and elegant, and blackboard menus advertise daily specials such as seared bluefin tuna with tempura prawns and a seaweed salad, or a seafood platter that seems to contain pretty well everything available locally from Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln. Look for export-quality tuna and kingfish, whole fresh flathead from Kangaroo Island and three varieties of oyster, the common pacific and much less common cupid (tiny and intense) and valentine’s (sweet and creamy). Norman’s salt-and-pepper chips are good, too.
Open: lunch Wed-Sun, dinner Mon-Sat. Licensed. Mains $25-$38.
