One place in Perth serving up freakshakes is Babooshka in Northbridge, where you can find a shake with three doughnuts, a generous rasher of crispy bacon coated in chocolate and some gummy worms for good measure. Doughnut ice-cream cones are actually a thing and they taste as amazing as they sound. Perth’s Lena Lu specialises in bomboloni (soft brioche-style Italian doughnuts) and it has partnered with local gelateria Jersey Jack to create this ultimate dessert. In this version, bomboloni have been modified to take on the form of a cone, which are coated with cinnamon sugar, filled with whipped caramel cream and topped with your choice of gelato and dessert sauce. They’re currently available exclusively at Jersey Jack at Como.

Creme de la Creme does cupcakes to the extreme. Its Salted Caramel Lindt cupcakes perhaps pack in more salted caramel per square centimetre than any other dessert in the world. It doesn’t have its own storefront but you’ll find its creations at various cafés around Perth. Or, you can be extra indulgent and order – hotel cupcake party anyone?

How do you make an ice-cream sandwich with thick Belgian waffles even more decadent? Make the waffles with Red Velvet cake mix. Oh, and then top the ice-cream with milk chocolate. Get it at Dessert Room in Karawara. So. Much. Dessert.

For a lighter yet totally delectable and unique dessert, head to Chu Bakery and order a Matcha Chu Puff: choux pastry filled with a yuzu (japanese citrus fruit), jelly and matcha green tea Chantilly cream. It has “matcha” and “green” in it so it is basically a salad, right?
“I Eat Milkshakes” at Whisk Creamery

The “I Eat Milkshakes” at Whisk Creamery in Subiaco is another Freakshake that is totally off-the-charts dessert. The version pictured starts with an Ivory Coast chocolate and wild blueberries milkshake that is then topped with fresh cream, a homemade cronut, homemade chocolate Couverture brownies, freeze-dried blueberries, homemade chocolate and almond cookies and blueberry coulis. Commence drooling.

From the Perth baking sensation Made By Marnee, known for her out-of-this-world celebration cakes, Sugar and Nice is an Inglewood-based café-bakery specialising in sweet treats in all sizes: cakes, slices, ice cream sandwiches and even things “cruffles” (cake truffles). The offerings change regularly but rest assured they will always be unique, scrumptious – and very Instagram-worthy.
