Conservationists and rappers unite as Vivid Sydney returns in 2018 for its tenth year, illuminating the city with its artful light shows, lively music line-up and thought-provoking talks.

Acclaimed movie director and marine conservationist James Cameron, along with local entrepreneur Dare Jennings and veteran artist and freethinker Peggy Oki will lead the Ideas portion of the Vivid program (25 May to 16 June), announced today in Sydney.

Music lovers will discover a similarly wide-ranging line-up for performances, with rapper Ice Cube, as well as ethereal performer Solange (sister of Beyoncé) rounding out the Vivid Live portion, along with indie darlings St. Vincent, Iron & Wine and Cat Power making unique Australian appearances.

Vivid Sydney’s playful light projections are what truly sets the city on fire and, as in previous years, there will be no shortage of colourful, ethereal installations. The Opera House will receive the requisite reimaging courtesy of Australian graphic artist Jonathan Zawada, while other interactive displays keep the whimsy of previous years.

In The Rocks, for example, a garden of ‘sweeties’ will be installed and 1000 cranes will be suspended above the heads of passers-by. This year also celebrates the 100-year anniversary of beloved May Gibbs’ characters Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, who will be grace the front of Customs House.
