Manly Wharf is making swift strides towards an overhaul, bringing some of Sydney’s most popular eateries to the northern suburb for the first time.

As part of a grand $9 million extension project, the commuter wharf and dining precinct will soon be home to Rockpool Dining Group’s family-favourite Fratelli Fresh, as well as the contemporary cool Japanese eatery Saké Restaurant & Bar.

Renovations atop the existing Manly Wharf Hotel are underway, with the sprawling, elevated space set to incorporate an outdoor beer and wine garden within Fratelli Fresh, along with an impressive balcony that takes full advantage of the venue’s sweeping harbour views.

The incoming Saké Restaurant & Bar will also enjoy the same elevated vantage point but the restaurant’s hopeful highlight (should designers find a way to work in the vision from the Rockpool Dining Group's Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash) is the 12-metre bar planned for the interior: a hint the eatery will retain its polished urban attitude among the relaxed seaside surrounds.

Further down the wharf, another renovation is also well underway: Merivale’s Americana smokehouse Papi Chulo has been stripped of its cosy booths and subway-tile interiors to make way for the arrival of Queen Chow – the popular Chinese outfit that successfully tested the waters in Enmore in Sydney’s inner-west. The turnaround is notably swift – with furious activity obvious to any curious ferry commuter – and the revived venue is expected to open in early June.

Although projected to open in August – this reinvigorated spot is already tipped to be summer’s hottest hangout.
