Qantas First and Business crew member Brian Wilson shares some fun – and free – activities in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a vibrant 24-hour destination and, fortunately, some the best ways to discover the city won't cost you anything!
The Hong Kong Tourism Board runs dozens of free activities, including tea appreciation master classes; Chinese medicine classes; and slow boat sailing tours around Victoria Harbour onboard the historic junk 'The Duckling'. To make a booking and collect your tickets all you need to do is take your passport to any of the Hong Kong Tourism Board's (HKTB) offices located around the city. The HKTB offices also have details of all the festivals and events that always seem to be taking place in and around Hong Kong.
Every night at 8pm you can see the harbour at its best and brightest with the Symphony of Lights. Designed by an Australian company, this spectacular show lights up the entire skyline – the best vantage point is along the Avenue of Stars on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, just near the historic Star Ferry Terminal.
Before boarding your flight home make sure you visit the 'Aviation Discovery Centre' exhibition inside Terminal 2 at the Hong Kong airport. Packed with interactive displays and one of the most exciting historic aviation collections I have seen, here visitors can even experience the thrill of landing a 747 between the apartment blocks at the former Kai Tak airport!
