The exterior of this 29-room hotel looks like one of the many heritage buildings in the Little India area but step inside and be blown away by hotelier Loh Lik Peng’s design-driven dreamland. This boutique hotel is a collaboration between four local design companies and features surreal landscapes throughout. Pantone colours inspire one floor, with each room uncompromisingly decked-out in a particular hue. Another floor is a monochrome interpretation of origami and pop art. The top prize, however, goes to the floor where each loft room takes on a whimsical theme, including one that looks like you’re in a leafy tree house. Every room comes with Shanghai Tang toiletries, iPod docks, cast-iron bathtubs and a passport with hand-drawn maps to the shops and restaurants in the area.

Location

Little India is noisy, messy and crowded but it is also one of the most buzzing and culturally authentic historic districts frequented by tourists and locals alike. Explore the narrow laneways that branch out from the main street, Serangoon Road, and discover old-fashioned trades like vendors selling garlands of aromatic jasmine and fortune tellers with their parrots.
