While you’re dashing between the cultural events at this year's Adelaide Festival keep your energy levels up with some well-earned eats and drinks. Here, our sub-cultural connoisseurs at The Thousands' list some of the city’s best loved drinking and dining venues.
Pigeon Island is a pop-up cafe to be found within the walls of this year's incarnation of Tuxedo Cat. Delightfully ramshackle, the venue-within-a-venue utilises repurposed wooden furniture and found objects. Along with tasty curries and excellent coffee, Pigeon Island features an impressive geodesic dome you can sit within.
From embossed bronzed floors to mosaic tiled walls, these luxury hotels go large when it comes to the business of beauty in our gallery of the world's most lavish hotel spas.
Over the years The Tivoli has evolved from a grungy live music venue to a gastropub, and most recently, the addition of Cantina at The Tivoli brings a new menu of Mexican street food done amazingly well, and done well into the night. The small plates are good to share and there's a great mix of cerveza, tequilas, and cócteles.
While you're on the move, be sure to catch Adelaide's first New York-style food van. Burger Theory gives burgers a good name with their Angus beef, crunchy iceberg lettuce, hot buns, and an incredible mystery sauce. They also sell burritos, fries and short batch three-choc cookies. Follow them onFacebook and Twitter, or check their online calendar to see where they will be grilling next.
In a city in which we can count rooftop bars on one hand, the Rocket Bar Rooftop is a welcome addition to the skyline. Set three floors above the city, the open air locale variously hosts events that include microcinema, Sunday barbeques, markets, live music and DJs.
Last but not least, Adelaide Festival's own free late club Barrio.Transforming Hajek Plaza into its own distinct district, Barrio offers a free nightly program celebrating the sub-culture with world renowned artists and DJs.
