You can explore Melbourne’s streets and alleyways with TV personality Red Symons or Stephanie Alexander, and it won’t cost you a cent. 774 PodTours, a collaboration between the University of Melbourne’s Department of History and ABC New Media and Digital Services, are audio walking guides to the city presented by various Melbourne identities. They’re not only free to download, they also allow you to discover the city at your own pace. Just visit ABC and download your preferred tour onto your MP3 player, print out the relevant map from the same site and you’re ready to hit the streets. There are three tours to choose from, each taking about one hour to complete. And if you’re a podcasting virgin, don’t panic – just follow the three simple instructions on the website and you’ll be a 774 PodTours streetwalker in no time.
